Last week, I wrote a post entitled: “How to Start a Trucking Business” on that post, it was discussed that to the start a trucking business one must take note of the 4 pointers: core customers, starting capital, starting small and seeking professional help. You’re here probably because you read my last post and was probably planning to start the business.

So, to be ready of the challenges ahead, here are the challenges in the trucking industry:
Economic Conditions
Knowing how the economy swings will assist truckers to know how many drivers to hire, how many equipments to buy and how much revenue to expect.
The trucking industry is a barometer of the economy’s health. Trucks hold raw materials into manufacturing plants where finished goods are processed and deliver it to consumers. If the trucks are full, you can say that the economic condition is improving and when it’s empty, economic condition is slowing down.
Having Lower Capacity
This is a good problem to have. Economic down turn eliminate thousands of trucking companies drove unemployed drivers out of the industry and significantly lower the ability of the industry to adequately service their customers.
Hiring and training new drivers, starting new trucking companies and expanding current fleets are the answers to this problem. The major challenge here is: “Will the truckers have the resources to take on to solve the problem?”
Driver Skills
Here in the Philippines, driver shortage has never been a problem unlike in America where the drivers are ageing with no young blood interested to replace them. With a surplus of drivers we have the problem here is their skills. Though plenty of Filipinos are great drivers we must admit that accidents happen everyday and it’s because most of the drivers in the country still lack formal driving education.
Operating Costs
The costs of operating a trucking company just keep on going up. Fuel prices and insurance pricing are the major factors that contribute to the operation costs. We cannot control fuel prices but as a solution truckers can contact big fuel companies to provide wholesale of fuel products.
So, that’s it! Thanks for following my posts!
